Television handyman and expert craftsman Chip Wade designed Ricko the ultimate rhino bachelor pad. Giving Ricko the comfort he deserved and also the durability he required, Chip used Mohawk SmartStrand Carpet with DuPont Sorona renewably sourced polymer.

First of all, DuPont Sorona is a renewably sourced polymer, which means a large part of the fiber is made from naturally occurring sugars from crops such as corn. Producing Sorona uses 30% less energy and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 63% than an equal amount of nylon fiber. That's an extremely important stat to humans AND rhinos.

These SmartStrand fibers also have a pretty impressive durability factor that Ricko tested to the max. Each carpet fiber is wear-tested with over 20,000 footsteps to simulate a whole year of normal wear. Which is why it was able to withstand an almost 1.5-ton rhinoceros for two weeks!

SmartStrand's stain protection is built into the triexta fiber so there's no harsh, sticky chemicals needed. Even more impressive is that the built-in stain resistance never washes off or wears off. No matter how wet or how mushed dirt gets in SmartStrand, it won't stain.

And after long days in the sun taking pictures for his fans, during the SmartStrand Challenge, Ricko was able to adjourn to the comfort of his enclosure where he relaxed and enjoyed the soothing comfort everywhere—not stiff carpet strands.
